You can realize income from monthly membership, from specials you offer inside the site, from affiliates efforts if you choose to go in that direction, and from additional business from conducting webinars, live training, etc.
Getting membership sites set up the right way means that members will be able to navigate the site easily, have use of the material available to them, and make them want to come back day after day…
If you have focused on what the site will contain, you can then use highly targeted marketing and offer related services and content that this targeted audience will need and use.
Membership Targeting is a three step process…
(1) First, identify the market. If you already know what market you will enter, good. If not you will have to do some research.
(2) Second, will your market generate income? Having a membership site in a niche that interests you is a good thing, but you need to make sure that you will be able to monetize the niche. Charity is good, but you still have to pay the bills!
(3) Lastly, drill down into a smaller and tighter area of your niche. You want to have a specific enough niche that you will not get lost in the market bedlam that is out there in the huge internet world…You want to target only people that have a passion for whatever it is that you will focus on…Then focus on adding information that is highly targeted to what they want.
Your premise for the site is that members are paying you money to save them the time and effort of trying to find the things you’re finding for them and adding to the site. Think CNN, Huffington Post, etc.
There are many directions to go with niche membership sites, it is not only products you can go after…Maybe target a particular demographic, a geographical area, or an event.
Approach people you know or family to get some ideas or run you ideas past them for feedback…Try to think about some areas that you enjoy and would not mind spending a lot of time involved in…
Next – Determine Demand
You can do a little research and see what the demand may be for your niche. Go to the bookstore, see what is selling and popular…Look on Amazon or eBay to see what is selling, read some comments…Read about the business through reports, websites, etc.
Use Keyword Research
Keywords are key (no pun intended)…Use AdWords (Google), use some of your keyword tools such as aMarket Samurai or Niche Reaper and look for niches that offer a high potential return and ones that have a lower level of competition.
Start from the general keywords for a niche and then work your way to the more specific, long-tail keywords…Remember you are focusing on topics that you would enjoy working with…
Keyword results are super indicators for determining demand and potential for you niche website!
Is There A Customer Demand
Go further than the idea and keyword research…Now you can look at the forums, chat rooms, facebook groups, and even facebook fan pages to see if there really is a demand for your niche…
See what members are doing, what they are looking for, what they are talking about, what their needs are, etc. You will get a good idea of website content you can add to your membership site that will be what they are looking for…
Once you know what they want , look for the solutions and provide them…
At this point, you may want to start interacting with potential members on the forums and pages or groups…Ask some questions, observe the answers you get, and later you can use the platforms to mention your membership site.
Do some further research to find the solutions they seek…Look at other websites serving the niche you’re targeting, determine what you can do better. Look at the products they’re offering, look at the advertisers on their sites as well; visit the sponsored sites and learn, learn, learn.
As you do this research, take notes on the appearance and navigation of the sites, see what products they offer, what other programs or tools are they including, and basically soak up as much knowledge as you can.
Now go again to your local bricks and mortar stores and library to read some more about your niche…Particularly focus on any related magazines that may be devoted to your niche. In the bookstores or stores, depending on the niche, see what products are being sold.
Next, Do Research On Yet More Sites
Check on informational sites – start with article directories, like ezinearticles.com or Reddit. Dig into your niche, see what demand there is for the information.
As you do this research, check on the sites of authors and take notes about what they’re doing right that you can emulate, and also things you can do better.

They could do the work to gather the information you provide, but they do not have the time nor the inclination. They would rather pay someone to do it for them…

The market is ready for more membership sites as more and more content is added to the internet…People are willing to pay for someone to do the work they could do but do not have the time to do….This is a growing opportunity for you.
Here are some things to consider adding to your site:
(1) Library of Content. Include a downloadable library of training manuals, contract templates, service agreement forms, employment forms, SaaS tools, or anything else that your niche can use daily or often.
(2) Cover the concerns of members. Add content that covers the biggest concerns of niche members and include levels for the starting entry level member to advanced and experienced members.
(3) Build in a forum. Include a discussion forum so members can exchange ideas, questions, tips and tools, and just have someone like-minded to talk with…It also gives experienced members a chance to share their knowledge with the less experienced.
(4) Create a blog platform with a comment section. Consider adding in the ability for members to add in their own training, blogs, and videos even, plus the ability for other members to comment on their posts…

Let’s say you create three levels of membership for your site and have 100 members total…There are 60 members subscribed at the lowest level of$10 a month, and 20 more at the mid-level where you charge $20, and yet 20 more members paying $30 a month, you have a total income of $1600! Imagine if you tripled the total membership and keep that ratio? You see how quickly income can be generated…
(2) There are low operational costs. You only have to maintain a website, a merchant account, and whatever costs for new content you will incur, plus maintenance of the site, so your total cost can be kept well below $500/month with little problem.
(3) Your marketing costs are low. Once you are up and running, there is no need for a large advertising budget…If you add in an affiliate program, you share the monthly subscriptions with others, but they are doing the marketing for you!
