INTRODUCTION

This is day thirteen of our lighter side posts you will find on “Making Money Online With Your Own Online Business” website…

These posts are meant to be absorbed by the reader quickly, with optional additional training available often that is either free of offered at a low cost.

Normally I will pull in some popular content from across the internet, and show how the lessons from that content can help us as online marketers.

Because the focus is very sharp and limited in scope, these posts can be gone through i a few minutes by the reader…They are intended to promote creative and critical thinking, and provide solutions or paths to solutions, minimally…

Today we are going to have a look at branding…Why is it important to us, how we can use it, and ways to work on polishing up your image that shows who “you: are to the public…

So, let’s get started!

WHAT IS BRANDING?

When you think branding you may be thinking about marketing. The two terms are similar but definitely not the same. Here is what the dictionary has to say about the two:

(1) Full Definition of branding:

The promoting of a product or service by identifying it with a particular brand.

(2) Full Definition of marketing:
  1. The act or process of selling or purchasing in a market or the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service

  2. An aggregate of functions involved in moving goods from producer to consumer

* These definitions are directly from  Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary found at http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary

These are simple definitions and indeed most of us understand the two terms. Many people get them mixed up. marketing involves a series of activities selling of branded products…

They are related but not the same…

Here is a funny video that relates to this short tutorial:

This somewhat tongue-in-cheek look at branding points out some of the problems that the process can involve. Branding is certainly soemthing that we ll need to be aware of or we may make some of the same mistakes…

This is a great segway into the next section of today’s short tutorial…

WHY BE CONCERNED ABOUT BRANDING?

This is a question I have heard from many people. Especially when starting out, there are so many things to get done. Branding seems like the last thing you should worry about?

Actually, it is quite the opposite. If you think about branding FIRST, and plan everything else that is to follow, you will have a program and business plan that all fits together…

Everything that you do from that point forward will support the branding you are shooting for. This will affect everything from your website to your content….

It is a fact that people today are very likely to do a search on you prior to buying something from you. Think about this and ask yourself how many times you have done this? It is a common practice…

What they see when the results appear come is likely going to affect their decision as to whether or not they want to do business with you, or even if they want to provide their contact information…

There are some ways that you can make sure that what they see is not going to throw them off of you or dealing with you. The next section covers some of the ways…

HOW TO BRAND YOURSELF ONLINE

Planning is of utmost importance when it comes to your branding effort. My recommendation is to do some old-fashioned writing out of what it is that you want to accomplish, why and how…Everything you do online is documented for everyone to see. Some things you can hide behind virtual walls, but there is likely a great deal of information on you that all can see…

Above you see someone putting their signature to a document. You should do the same…After you have completed your plan, mentally sign that piece of paper and use it as yur guideline going forward…

Remember that everything you do online is documented for the world to see. Some things you can hide behind virtual walls, but there is likely a great deal of information on you that all can see…

When you comment on posts or blogs, when you publish content online, when you publish videos on a public site such as YouTube, and of course all of the social media platforms, all leave trails…

As an online marketer, you want to project a positive presence about yourself and your sales activities and company. There are ways to do this without compromising who you are…

First of all, having your own piece of real estate (i.e. a domain) is important. Just as with real estate in a town or city, the domain represents your little corner of the internet.

Using that platform, you can build a web presence and then build your social sites and pages around that. This makes sense because together they will provide a wider footprint where people can find you…

Specifics on how to do this can take up volumes of training and videos, but it basically comes down to this:

(1) Determine what your brand should look like. Who are you, what do you represent, what kind of products or services will you promote or sell, and how can you project a positive image across your footprint?

(2) Once you have determined the avenues you will use (i.e. Facebook, YouTube, Website, LinkedIn, etc. then you must standardize the message across these platforms.

(3) Small differences are ok, but essentially you want a solid and clear message to come across to anyone searching for you or your business. They need to get the same central thread across all the sites you use…

(4) As you build lead lists and start selling more products, the volume  of data on you and your company will also build. You need to stay aware of the importance of maintaining a solid and positive image…

It is important that as you plan your online business, you keep this in mind. All of your activities will then support your plan because they will be built around it.

This is a very simplistic explanation, but essentially that is it…When you start drilling down into the tactics to take with each of the platforms, additional training will get you the product you are looking for…

My suggestion is that you focus on getting a suitable domain based on the branding you are looking for, then create the website, then start with one or two main social media platforms…Build these out and move on to the next ones…

Minimally, I would have a presence on YouTube, Google +, Facebook, and Twitter…Facebook and Google are competitors in many ways, but you cannot afford to ignore either of them, because they cover such large swaths of the world and internet users…

Because this brief explanation is not nearly enough of an in-depth explanation, I have added a book for you here that will go more into depth on what to do and why.

It also will give you some “how to” on all the subjects I have mentioned above. It will really help you plan for your brand and branding actions you can take…
