I have been involved with online marketing for more than a few days now, and one thing that I have heard since day one of my online marketing effort is to build a list of subscribers and use emails to market to them,’
I have also heard people talking about how emails is so yesterday and how there are many other more effective ways to promote your products and services such as webinars, social media, and the like…
It is true that over time, you get on so many lists that you cannot possibly keep up with them all. Your inbox is inundated with offers, promotions, and get rich now emails.
Which ones do you open? Which ones sit there, unopened and eventually discarded?
Personally, I have to be captured by the headline first, the sender second, and then if they get through these gates, I will open the mail and see what is being offered.

These are tips for those readers that are currently using emails and marketing campaigns. Keep the tips handy especially if you are just starting out…You will understand why as you get going – they will help you create and fine tune your mails for maximum effectiveness…
Tip # 1 – Keep It Short
Keep the emails on point. Use short sentences and small sized paragraphs.
Tip # 2 – Use Effective Headlines
Do not use a generic title such as “Our Response from the Marketing Team,” rather make it catchy so it draws the attention of the recipient. Remember they are looking at hundreds of emails a day…But also be careful that it doesn’t look like spa
But on the other hand be careful that your title doesn’t look like spam. The email providers today are pretty picky about emails and will place your mail in spam in a heartbeat…
Tip # 3 – Focus On One Point
Nothing is more confusing for me than when I get an email and it runs on from subject to subject that are totally unrelated. It is one thing to drill down and expand on a subject, and another to talk about 10 things…A subject – good, many subjects, not good…
Tip # 4 – Focus On Them Not You
Remember that recipients of your email are opening up what you have sent because are sending something of value to THEM. They are not really interested in you per se…Keep ity that way in general when you write the content…
Tip # 5 – Vocabulary To Use
To make sure that everyone can understand your points and call to action, keep the language very simple. Try to write for a third or fourth-grade level audience. You don’t know the education level or the English proficiency of the recipients.
Tip # 6 – Be Open & Honest
If you make an error in what you send, resend with a correction and explain openly and clearly what happened. State in your mail also what you are doing to correct the situation.
Tip # 7 – Answer The Question
If you have a query, do not provide a partial answer. This frustrates the sender of the request for help and results in additional emails having to be sent back and forth. It also makes you look inept.
Tip # 8 – Let Them Know When You Will Communicate
Be sure to let the recipients know the schedule they can expect in regards to the nest emails you will send. This can help build anticipation and better open rates.
Tip # 9 – Get To The Point – Quickly
Concise and to the point emails work best. That’s it, a quick tip that will help you loads when it comes to open rates, dropping the number of subscribers who unsubscribe from your list, etc.
Tip # 10 -Answering Questions About A Website, Tool, or Product
When you send a response to a question and the answer is somewhere on a page on your website or tool, give them EXACT directions on where to go to get the answer.
Tip # 11 – Present Benefits
Make sure that you add in the benefits to the recipient…They want to know what you are offering will do for them, what problem it will solve, how it can make their lives easier…
Tip # 12 – Look At The Formatting
Formatting matters, really…Keep the mail neat looking, break the paragraphs into a small digestible and related few sentences… Remember you are writing to the masses, and you want everyone to understand what you are saying…
Tip # 13 – Review Prior to Posting
Make sure that you make some time and look through the emails or series of emails that you will use in a campaign. Check them for all the points mentioned here, and maybe have someone else look at them too if possible….Fix whatever needs fixing…
Tip # 14 – Provide Clarity
The emails should not only be short and concise, they also need to be very clear in what they say and ask. If you can get your point across in a few words written in an active voice and also simple manner, it will be clear to recipients what it is you are saying…
Tip # 15 – Review AGAIN Prior to Posting
It actually makes sense to leave a project where you are writing a series of emails alone after you think you are done. Go have a cup of coffee, take a break, do something else…THEN take one more look at what you have created…Make any final adjustments, THEN add them to your autoresponder….

Emails can be a little more casual than a business letter. In fact, they need to be…The tone you use in your choice of words and how you put them together can have a huge impact on the success you have…
Email messages that are too formal look just silly…Yet, remember that there is a very fine line between being too relaxed and too stiff. You need to find a balance that you are comfortable with…
To a degree, depending on what kind of offer it is, along with the seller will determine the formality necessary. For example, a bank or a law firm likely will use a more formal tone than an affiliate marketer promoting a product or tool.
Put yourself in the mind of the recipient. What would they be expecting from you? You have to know your audience and appeal to them on the level they understand and will react to.
If you are responding to an email, this is a bit easier, because you can emulate the tone of the sender. You can simply match their tone.
I always recommend seeking and using a tone that is professional, yet somewhat conversational. An easy way to help achieve this is ny using contractions (i.e. we’ll, he’s, they’re, etc.).
Remember that it is okay to use pronouns as you create your emails. As with a conversation, use words such as “I, we, you.” For example, “Research has determined…” sounds very impersonal and stiff. Try “My research suggests. . .”
Do not overuse the pronoun “I.” If there is too much in your emails it can be perceived as egotistical. First you don’t want to appear pompous, and second, you want the focus to be on them, not you…Be sure to check your emails prior to adding them to your autoresponders and campaigns…

Always remember that your e-mails need focus on the subscriber and potential customer, not you. Refer to them as “YOU” and share with them how your email content can benefit THEM. What’s in it for you does not matter to the reader.
Lastly…Work To Establish and Build Trust
There are the multitudes that have developed barriers and added protection to keep their email accounts spam-free…This is possibly the majority of email users out there today…
Then there are those like me who have signed up to numerous lists so they can receive emails that promote the huge amount of products, tools, and services.
They do this because knowing more about what the market is offering can be beneficial for them in a number of ways. They are kept in the loop with what is going on in their niche, plus they get to see some good copy!
Of course, businesses like these kinds of customers…Then the task is to build trust. When you have built this up with your customers, they reward you with loyalty, and purchases.
Remember that the faster you find ways to build your opt-in list, the faster word will spread about you and your site(s). Not only that, you will start getting more traffic to your website, altogether meaning more profits for you.
The foundation to all of that happening is trust. It is based in large part on your expertise. People want to rely on other people who know what they are talking about.
So get smart about whatever niche you are in. That will be reflected in your emails, on your page, and in your offers. People will know that you speak with authority because you show them…
Provide them with helpful hints and guidelines that pertain to what you are selling. Talk and show them how to do something that is niche related using an explainer video.
Do not try to BS your customers. They will see through this very quickly and you will lose them. Not only that, your reputation suffers. Work to get only satisfied customers…
Offer a guarantee or a money back timeframe when they buy from you…Provide them an escape hatch. Show them that you are not there to trap them. They will appreciate this…
Keep a clean list – make sure that recipients of your emails can see clearly how to unsubscribe. If they do not want to receive your emails they are wasting your time and theirs, so show them how they can. Normally include this at the bottom of your email.

Emails can be a tricky way to market when you first start, and even as a seasoned marketer there are “ins and outs” that you may not be aware of.
