SnapChat is yet another social platform that has come to light more recently due to the changes they have implemented with the app. These changes are conducive to marketers using the platform more.
Today I want to cover the background of SnapChat and how the changes since then have now allowed for its practical use by online marketers.
Then I want to lay out some training that I have made available to you through my site that will help you get off the ground if you are totally new to SnapChat, or help you leverage the tool more effectively of you already are using the platform.
Let’s get started!
WHAT IS SNAPCHAT
Snapchat is a relatively new platform that has caught on like crazy with millions of users, many of which are the younger segment of internet surfers who are looking for entertainment and also who buy stuff!
Here is a sample of some big sites or companies using SnapChat:
SnapChat is a social media platform made up largely of young people (although this is changing as the platform catches on with people) share short stories, pictures, and the like.
What makes it different from some of the other platforms that are out there is that you have a great deal of creative latitude to make entertaining posts that can go viral.
A lot of people do not yet understand the premise of the platform, and how to best use it to their advantage for increasing traffic and sales.
First, let’s learn a little bit how SnapChat came about…
The History of SnapChat
The SnapChat platform was started about four and one-half years ago and came from an idea that founder Evan Spiegel and his friends came up with while in a class at Stanford (Does any of this sound familiar?}.
Fast forward to today and there are now over 100 million active users and on the platform there are 7 billion daily video views! Some big names have joined, to include the White House, Michelle Obama, and companies as you see above.
Online marketers who buy ads or are looking for organic traffic and new audiences are starting to take notice of this platform. Hence the tutorial today and offer for additional training you see here.
The beginnings of SnapChat were in the time when the big three platforms were playing off one another. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram all were the rage (and still are), so what SnapChat did was go in this different direction that the others were not doing.
In this manner, they carved out a niche for themselves, especially with the younger crowd. and create a new social pipeline.
Rather than save everything — storing every interaction, picture, etc. the developers decided that the opposite direction for their new platform was better and different from the other social platforms.
What they designed was closer to our reality. in that moments of our lives are temporary, and that’s what Snapchat should emulate. The platform taps into what was when it comes to social platforms…
Think television…Remember in the old days you watched a show and that was it. Once it was shown, you had no chance to see it again, it was past.
Moments are temporary in our lives they come and go, much as I described above, and that’s exactly the feeling and behavior that Snapchat gives the user.
A lot of people do not yet understand the premise of the platform, and how to best use it to their advantage for increasing traffic and sales.
Snapchat is intended to work in a manner that is close to how we communicate face to face. This is a different perspective for interactions between members other big social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. are set up to do.
Think about your daily activities at the office, at the store, at the restaurant, etc. You see people in passing and may converse with them, or perhaps not. This happens again and again throughout your day…
In either case, when you meeting or see the people, and move on, so do the moments of the meeting…they disappear and are in the memory, past for all intents and purposes. This is what Snapchat attempts to provide behavior-wise and regarding the psychology involved with its capabilities.
As more and more people use the platform and get comfortable with creating their own short stories and etc. plus advertising capabilities and opportunities increase, this is one social media platform to watch and be a part of.
The number of users will likely go the way of Instagram and other platforms, wherein exponential increases in users will happen over the next months.
Why is that of interest to you, the online marketer? Because getting traffic is where the money is, in that you can get new leads, grow a relationship with them, and promote your products and services to them.
You can even promote your other social sites using SnapChat!
WHY IT WILL HELP YOUR ONLINE SALES
As mentioned above, just as with other social media platforms, SnapChat has an audience that is looking every day for new posts, unique content, interesting content, and that audience is growing exponentially.
This means that they are looking for people and companies to follow. If you can establish a presence and offer attractive postings, you will be able to reach many millions of new people, some of whom will follow you.
These followers can help add new followers to other social sites you may maintain, plus you can draw them to your website and content, plus offers you may have there.
Since this medium is so new and catching on quickly, it is a chance to create a strong presence on the platform, In your effort to do this, it is helpful to have a guideline on just how to do it…
This short tutorial will help start you on your way, but the additional training course I have here for you will get you there a lot faster, while making fewer missteps along the way…
HOW TO APPROACH USING SNAPCHAT
Here are some basic concerns that you will address as you develop your online following, and how then you can use them to increase followers on your other social sites, plus get the followers to your websites and offers…
Let’s Discuss The Elements For Using SnapChat
There are a number of things that you must take into consideration as you start using SnapChat. None are that difficult, but it is wise to learn a bit and get some tips to help get you started faster.
The other consideration is that I am assuming you want to use this social media platform for increasing your reach with potential leads, increase your leads, and convert them into loyal buyers…
Following are some of the things to consider:
How To Use The Application
To start using the application, of course, you must download it from your mobile operating system store, then register and get your account activated. Standard stuff so far.
Once you have done that, you will go through the setup process where you can change the settings as you like (you can of course change them later as you might want based on experience)…
At that point, you are ready to start with SnapChat! So what are we looking for when we do this? You are filming events around you or ones that you are in…Then sharing them with other SnapChat members…
The Basics To Using Snapchat
Because the platform is very different with a different focus from other social media platforms, using SnapChat at the start can be a bit confusing.
Below are some basic functions so you understand the premise and how to create your posts….
What is A Snap, a Story, and a Chat
These are all terms and part of the language peculiar to the SnapChat app, and you will need to understand them when others start talking about the app.
The first term is Snap. This covers the main functionality of the app and is the term used for the disappearing photos and videos. You can send these directly to other friends using the app. They last anywhere from one second up to ten seconds after being opened, then the “snap” disappears.
They last anywhere from one second up to ten seconds after being opened, then the “snap” disappears. Snaps will last between one to ten seconds after being opened by the receiver, then they will disappear…
The next term is “Story.” This is a collection of your Snaps that you put together to create a tale. Unlike the direct Snaps mentioned above these are open for viewing by anyone who may be following you.
So as you make Snaps, then send that Snap to your Story, the Snap becomes public to your all of your followers. Note that Stories can last up to 24 hours, then will disappear, and are limited to 10 seconds in length.
This one sounds like a familiar term, right? Well yes it is in some ways similar, and in others, not so much. How you use it on SnapChat is by swiping right on a person’s name in your direct Snap inbox,
When you do this, a chat function will appear on your screen. On the receiving end, you will know that you’ve received a chat because a blue speech bubble will appear next to someone’s name.
Note that Chats will also disappear after being opened….

Now let’s drill down a bit more…
Things To Film Using SnapChat
Of course, you are recording the moments as they happen around you and sharing them, as is the intent of SnapChat.
If you are doing so with the intent of furthering your online marketing program, then here are a few things you might want to film and publish:
- Footage for events or shows that are taking place or that you are hosting…
- Use your creativity to put together some quizzes that others can respond to and share with others…
- Add some behind the scenes footage that viewers would not be normally able to see…
- Advertise the lifestyle you are selling, i,e, the good life of luxury and things and people…
- Add some photos and start a competition…
- Provide a humorous look at a time period of your day, make it a compilation that will entertain…

- You can use the platform to offer a short term special offer…
- You can add clips of your Youtube videos…
- To get a sense of excitement, or to create a “buzz” as some would say, SnapChat is a perfect medium…
Of course, there are many more ideas on how to use SnapChat for marketing campaigns, but you get the idea from these few. You are limited only by your imagination and willingness to work!
Increasing Your SnapChat Followers
- One of the simplest and most effective ways to get more followers is to ask members to follow you! Of course, you should be posting content that is of vale and getting views to entice them to follow.
- The next thing you can do is to share your SnapChat posts on your other platform sites. This will help get those SnapChat members from those sites to add you on SnapChat (again, ask!)…
- As with our other social media platforms, and like our blogs and websites, we can offer a lead magnet that will pull in potential subscribers and then work to get a strong relationship for selling to them.
Here also, there likely are a number of other tools and tips that will help. The ones mentioned are just a starting point, and using your imagination, you will come up with your own…
Things To Remember When Using SnapChat
There are a few basic things I will go into here on the rules or etiquette (unwritten rules) for using SnapChat. None are hard to live with, by the way, pretty much they are common sense…
- You Are Telling A Story – Make sure that you keep this in mind as you plan for and create your posts…
- Make Your Followers Feel Special – They need to feel like you are sharing something with them that others who are not followers will not have the opportunity to see…
- Use Other Visual Tools – Youtube video clips, images, infographics, and the like add to your storyline and will keep the interest of the viewers on you and your post…
- Find Unique Angles – Seek out new ways to use this platform to create a short term “bump” for whatever it is you are looking to get a bump for…
