INTRODUCTION

This is day twenty of our ongoing lighter side posts…Today we are going to cover the subject of organization skills and time management.

Organization of your life and activities is so important…

Before we get started, please understand that these lighter side posts are intended to have a look at subjects with a little fun in mind, and will generally throw in a lesson or two that we can all use in our lives…

Organizational skills or lack thereof affect more than just your job or business. Taken to the extreme, NOT having them can result in a very disruptive life on the personal side too.

I will go through some of the concerns, how your focus on these life skills can help or hurt you, add in some examples of what happens when we are NOT organized, and then offer you some additional training.

Without further ado, let’s get started!

WHAT IS TIME MANAGEMENT

Time management is more or less self-explanatory. It is the management of time. The study of time management started a century ago and has since that period been a mantra for business people and leaders alike…

In the industrial revolution, as things started getting more automated, manufacturing started being broken down into elements or tasks.

Think Ford here, who was the first to start using an assembly line…

The idea was that you could break a project into individual parts and assign people to do one task each only. Every person had a task to complete on the assembly line.

It was efficient, productive, and eliminated wasted motion and effort….Production output blew through  the roof, prices came down for the products assembled, and everyone won…

This worked rather well for a lot of years, as you may have gathered, and since that early time, the concept has been studied and fine-tuned to a remarkable degree.

Today you will see robots and other machines that a few people operate where there used to be hundreds…

To go along with that early period when manufacturing processes were evolving, there were also a lot of studies going on to examine personal organizational skills and time management.

Some rather famous people dedicated their lives to helping people do more with the same time they had…The studies that were conducted and the results were published, discussed, and implemented…

The same concepts that were studied so long ago still apply today…Many of the precepts that were discovered back then still hold true today…

Bottom line is if you want to get more done in the same amount of time you must organize yourself and look at how you spend your time….

What happens when you do this?

You have less stress because you have planned things out for the day, the week, the month, and so on…

You may find yourself looking and planning far ahead for your career, i.e. maybe the jobs you want along the way, where you want to live, who you want to marry, etc.

Some people go overboard and plan things right down to the minute.

These people are generally considered a bit odd. Taken too far, it can be an unhealthy thing…

I want to show you one example of why we need to be concerned with organization skills and time management through a video.

This video is a bit old, but the principles have not changed and with the advent of the internet, mobile phones, and especially with the social platforms we all love to spend our time on, are more pertinent than ever…

[videoframes src=” ” skin=”34″ controls=”1″ headline_text=”Is This YOU? ” headline_color=”#000000″ headline_size=”22″]

Admittedly, this example portrayed by the presenter may be an extreme one for most people, but there are some lessons that we all can take away from this video.

Also, there are some in this world that may have NO idea about the advantages of organizational skills and time management…This lighter side look at the subject of organizational skills and time management should be especially illuminating for these folks…

WHY IT SHOULD CONCERN YOU

You may be wondering, “Why should I be concerned about this. I get things done and have plenty of time too. I am ok, there is no need for me to keep reading…”

I am here to tell you that even if you pick up three or four things that will help you get more organized in your life, it can have a major and positive impact for you both professionally and personally.

Some people have the talents to pretty much get things done on time, every time. They are well-oiled machines and need only to be given a task, a deadline, and the resources to complete the task.

There is no doubt they will complete on time what is to be done…

The vast majority of us, however, will need to think through the process, break that task into steps, and then plan the time to get the mission completed. It does not come naturally.

It does not come naturally…

Running your own online marketing business means that any time you spend doing the business involves a cost. Maybe not a dollar amount always, but the time, which has a value too…

Get organized and use time management skills and you can use that time to do something else…

Letting tasks stack up, rushing to get them done, doing just enough to get by because of the time wasted, and missing important tasks because of no organization will cost you…

THAT is why it makes sense to look at what your day consists of on a regular basis, see how the moments, minutes, hours and day are filled with activities, and develop solutions that will decrease wasted time.

There are a million of them out there, but I want to cover just a few for you today here. I do have some additional training that will allow you to take a drill down look at organizational skills and time management…

Lastly….Let’s reiterate what we have covered today in this lighter side tutorial…

CONCLUSION

Today we took a look at organizational skills and time management from two sides. It can help you and hurt you if you are not aware of what you are doing on a regular basis…

You may be spending 10 hours a day “working” but when you start to analyze what you are doing during those hours you will discover that 6 hours is being wasted!

We looked at the humorous side of wasting time and having no organization skills in a short video and then offered some tips for you in another video to do a short self-evaluation…

Finally, I offered you the chance to purchase a training course intended to take you through a rational, logical process to evaluate what you are doing now, and providing steps to better organize yourself…

We all know of people that are at one end of the continuum or the other when it comes to organizational skills and time management. Taken to the extreme, either way, it is not a healthy situation.

What I propose and teach in the training is that we must seek out a healthy balance that gets the work done in an efficient manner while not obsessing about how you spend every minute of your day…

The training is purposely not expensive because I want as many people as possible to buy and use it. Now it is time for you to quit wasting your time….

Get the training, use the training, and get organized for the day, the month, the year, and for your life!

Have fun and best of luck!

  1. I never really thought of an assembly line as a time management system, rather a people management system. It actually makes complete sense when you think about it in the manner you presented. Seclude get and eliminating wasted motion by keeping individuals in one spot doing one job is brilliant time management. (Weird huh)

Time management has never been a strong virtue of mine. I tend to get distracted by things easily. I wonder how much more productive I could actually be if I could stay focused.

Is this something the training program you spoke of can help with?

    Jason

    1. Hi, Jason,

I have been an avid management fan since I was a young lad, and truthfully when I started some of the tenets of time management and organizational skills I was raised with, reluctantly at times I am afraid (youth)…The Army taught me a lot on organizational skills AND time management hehe…It was a case of “Get your act together or perish” really…

Once I started getting interested in higher level education, not that long after entering the service, I started with management courses…There I delved into the subject on a much deeper level and found I loved the subject…I put the tips and tools into practice in my own life and also pushed it with those around me…

You can get so much more done when you are organized, and the extra time you can then spend doing things that you like doing, such as family, friends, hobbies, etc.

When I started with online marketing, the first thing I noticed was that it was very easy to get distracted from the tasks at hand and waste the available time on shiny objects (not to mention the money you waste)…

The whole intent of the training program I call The Organized Mind is to focus on this set of principles. It is not a graduate level course, rather a more introductory level course that will offer solid tips and tools for the person that wants to get more done and get organized.

Thanks for stopping by and providing some input to this important subject, really it is one of the cheapest tools you can buy – getting organized and using good time management skills will be like having an extra person working with you, because you will get much more accomplished…

      Cheers!
      Dave
